Internal evidence, on the other hand, examines the phenomena of the text itself to determine the probability that the author had a previous work in mind when he wrote a given passage. The words, ideas, and structures are all examined in relation to potential sources. The more parallels one finds to a particular source, the more likely it is that the author had that source in mind as he wrote.
